Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) services have political and socioeconomic relevance for rural development in Brazil and are fundamental in strengthening the relationship between technological information and rural producers. In this sense, the purpose of this study was to analyze the importance of rural extension for family farmers in the municipality of Xinguara-PA. The methodology used was qualitative and quantitative, carried out with semi-structured interviews with farmers and technicians from Ater in the region, both in the public and private sectors. Based on the questions asked, it was possible to gather significant results on the studied topic, concluding that, in addition to the relevance of the Ater service, a considerable portion of farmers do not have knowledge about how the activities work, especially in relation to the service provided publicly. In addition, the research demonstrates a niche opportunity for professionals in Agricultural Sciences in this region and their contributions to regional development.
