The article analyzes the constructed and disseminated social representations of the Contestado socio-religious movements in Santa Catarina and the Muckers, in Rio Grande do Sul, through the Caminhos do Contestado and Caminhos de Jacobina tourist routes. Through the identification and characterization of the different elements - monuments, buildings, cemeteries, railways, squares, historic sites, museums, tourist enterprises of different segments- a critical reading is carried out on the context of production of these physical spaces and to what extent they can be considered as places of memory, insofar as they contribute to the record of the memory of this past of the two socio-religious movements. It is particularly interesting to discuss the existing relationship between the appropriation of memory and the construction of tourist itineraries, with essentially economic and for-profit purposes, mischaracterizing and hat constitute the history of the movements in question.
Keywords: Places of memory. Socio-religious movements. Tourist itineraries. Mucker (RS). Contested (SC).
