Celso Furtado's intellectual production on the theme of regional development in the Northeast is well-referenced, so it is necessary to permanently revisit his theoretical and methodological postulates. To this end, we aim to analyze the scientific production available in international and national databases on the concept of Northeastern regional development. Methodologically, it was decided to use the historical method of analysis associated with an integrative literature review, defining descriptors to integrate opinions, concepts and ideas on the theme. It was observed that the works that discuss the researched descriptors are of a longitudinal nature contributing to the concept of regional development in sectorial public policies. In conclusion, Furtado's studies influenced other authors in demystifying that the relationship between drought and the development of the Northeast was only a policy of dependency, as well as the relevance of the author for research on regional development, given his detailed analysis of the theme.
