Regional development and health: the importance of university extension in visual health in Amplanorte

Universities play a fundamental role in regional development through their teaching, research and extension activities. This article aimed to examine the relationship between the university extension of the Visual Health Clinic at Universidade do Contestado and regional development, according to education and health managers at Amplanorte. The research was classified as descriptive and exploratory, with bibliographic and field data collection methods, and a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out through online forms answered by municipal education secretaries, school directors and municipal health secretaries, totaling 24 participants. The results indicated a predominant positive perception among the participants, suggesting that the Visual Health Clinic contributed to the human and sustainable development of the Amplanorte population.
