Abstract

Considering the similarities in the literature, the aim of this work is to analyze the interfaces between handicrafts and the creative economy in the Sereias da Penha Artisans Project, through the characteristics of the producer (traditional knowledge, creativity and entrepreneurial skills); aspects of the product (symbolic value and creativity); social networks (interactions between actors); and product impacts (environmental, economic and social). A qualitative/exploratory study was carried out using semi-structured interviews and secondary data. After analyzing the ATLAS.ti software, it was found that the traditional knowledge passed on by artisans contributes to the creative economy, which has traditional knowledge as a key factor. In addition, the symbolic value of the product is an essential attribute for both themes, since it has a high cultural value. Furthermore, social interactions appear to facilitate local creative capacities, as this tends to strengthen the area of the creative economy and handicrafts in economic, social and environmental terms.
