Abstract

The knowledge production in the urban and regional planning area and demography in Brazil is diverse, both in theoretical-methodological aspects, thematic approach or from the institutional arrangement. The Master's and Doctoral Program in Population, Territory and Public Statistics is based at the National School of Statistical Sciences, an education institution within the structure of IBGE. Based on this link, the program has its strategic objectives defined by the scientific challenges of the area and by the IBGE, promoting the development of knowledge on public statistics production and on population living conditions, particularly in relation to population and territorial dynamics. Until 2021, the Program had already graduated 388 masters and 16 doctors. Their graduate alumni are allocated in public and private institutions, in Brazil and other countries. Its main current challenge is the consolidation of the doctorate level, which involves expanding the scientific impact of its production and expanding the performance of graduates at this level.
