Pulp industries establish partnerships with rural producers in order to meet their demands for raw materials. The demand for wood arouses the interest of rural producers in forestry. The objective of this study is to present a new indicator capable of analyzing the development of producers who work with forestry. Bibliographic and documentary researches were carried out, as well as incursions into the field. Through statistical test it was possible to validate the data. The result was the creation of the Forestry Producer Development Index (IDPS), this index revealed that promoted producers have a higher IDPS than independent producers, who use wood for other purposes. By means of the IDPS classification, the influence of the size of the property, the silviculture area and the forest promotion area were verified. Forestry promotion manages to improve the quality of life of producers' families and, thus, contribute to the development of rural producers.
