Abstract

This paper analyzes the importance of the North-South Railway (FNS) for the economic development of the municipalities of Açailândia (MA) and Porto Nacional (TO). Thus, it addresses the relevance of the railway modal for the country, the privatization of railway sections in operation, the projection of cargo transportation for the coming years and its territorial impacts. Furthermore, it is demonstrated how the investments of the concessionaires play a significant role in this process, since the construction of the FNS has been, for several periods, stagnated due to the lack of public management of resources. It also demonstrates how public / private management is an alternative for the consolidation of Brazilian railways, contributing to interconnect and intensify the economic relationship between Brazilian cities and regions with the world market. Through bibliographic and documentary research he finds that there were improvements in the economy of the municipalities of Açailândia (MA) and Porto Nacional (TO), places where the main FNS railway yards are in operation.

Jeferson Castro Vieira, Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás

Possui graduação em Ciências Econômicas pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás (1982), mestrado em Filosofia pela Universidade Federal de Goiás (1996) e doutorado em Estudos Comparados Sobre as Américas pela Universidade de Brasília (2001). Atualmente é professor titular da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás, articulista do jornal O Popular, comentarista econômico de rádios locais e ex-conselheiro do Conselho Superior da FAPEG, Sebrae, FCO, Conselho Estadual de Educação. Tem experiência na área de Economia, com ênfase em Economia Regional, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: conjuntura econômica, economia brasileira, desenvolvimento regional, desenvolvimento e economia regional e urbana, arranjos produtivos locais, sistemas de inovação e mercado financeiro. (Texto informado pelo autor)
