This article had as main objective the expansion of the tourist sector in Rio Grande do Norte, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and in the Northeast region of Brazil, where is the beach of Pipa. The comparative study of travel by tourists between two municipalities in the period 2001-2016 provides indications on the importance of tourism in determining employment over time. The hypothesis that supports this work is that a tourist activity in Natal experiences relative supply, a goal reached by Pipa in the international and national markets has become a unique tourist product, determining a more intensive growth trajectory of the business related to the sector and promoting the concentration of employment in this locality. The results obtained from the locational quotient (), Hirschman-Herfindahl index () and the Relative Participation index () may increase the degree of confidence in the hypothesis formulated.
