The direct sale of food between producers and consumers has gained prominence in recent years. This form of interaction in fair space seeks the rescue of food origin, as well as the valuation of cultural, socioeconomic and environmental aspects. In this sense, the objective of this article is to analyze the contribution of the SC Rural Program and the local public policies for the consolidation of the space of the family agriculture fair, in the Municipality of Xaxim / SC. The methodology consisted of the collection of secondary data and semi-structured interviews, held with market participants, consumers and public actors involved in the process of building the fair. The research verified that the Rural SC and the local public policies played a fundamental role in the consolidation of the commercialization center of products of the familiar agriculture. The results of the fair have benefited not only farmers, but also consumers who view the fair as an alternative to the dominant agri-food system of food marketing. In addition, the fair presents itself as a new space for building social practices of local and rural development.
