Abstract

This article discusses the industrial structures specificities of the Anápolis and Rio Verde industrial poles in Goiás, analyzing their differences in terms of agglomerative factors, integration with the local productive base and consequent capacity to dynamize their economy and that of their neighborhood. To accomplish this goal, it builds an Industrial Diversification Index (IDI), a Sectoral Concentration Ratio (RCS) and a Territorialization Index (IT), using data from RAIS and the SEFAZ-Go electronic tax system. It concludes that Anápolis had its industrial development associated mainly with urban agglomeration economies, resulting in a more diversified industry with low intra and inter sectoral integration, as well as with the rest of the regional productive base. As a result, it has a low inter-industry multiplier and limited capacity to boost the economy in its surroundings. Rio Verde, in turn, had its industrialization associated with Marshallian specialization economies, during a movement of agricultural modernization and integration with industry, giving rise to highly integrated agroindustrial complexes and inserted in the regional economy. Its denser chains become major drivers for local and regional growth. Finally, it draws attention to the importance of considering these specificities when thinking about Goiás industrial policies.
