The present study aims to approach planned obsolescence and its impacts on consumer relations, pointing out its qualifications, origin and the damages resulting from such a practice. It appears that the evolution of society gave rise to hyperconsumption, which together with technological innovations, contributed to a shorter useful life of products, especially when there is interference from the supplier. The objective of the present work is to demonstrate how programmed obsolescence is an abusive practice in relation to consumption, given the clear vulnerability of the consumer towards the supplier. And, therefore, the need for state interference is concluded to rebalance the consumption relationship and prevent the supplier from using its condition and acting arbitrarily. Methodologically, the research is classified as deductive, descriptive and bibliographic, with a bibliographic and jurisprudential review technique.
