Abstract

It is undeniable how much the internet influences the population's routine and habits, and it has even brought significant changes in various aspects of daily life, such as leisure, work and social relationships. Electronic games went from being just a space for fun and became a profession, even as a sport, called Esport. This article aims to promote an analysis of the sporting competitive modality called Esports, since athletes in this modality are part of a growing professional occupation. The question that involves the theme hovers in the legal protection surrounding this professional category, whether there is a possibility of recognition of the employment relationship or if they are supported by Brazilian sports legislation. The research is a bibliographical review based on doctrine, scientific articles and pertinent legislation. Therefore, the applied methodology is qualitative. It can be concluded from the survey that, even in the face of current national legislation that may somehow support cyber-athletes, it is not the most appropriate scenario, as there is much to be improved regarding the rights of professional electronic players, but the Cardinal focus cannot be just the enactment of a special law, given the peculiarities of sport.
