Introduction: in the context of public health, monitoring morbidity indicators contributes to understanding the epidemiological profile and the need for public policies. Objective: to identify the trend of hospitalizations for cancer among children and adolescents aged 0-19 years according to the health macro-regions of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Method: this is an ecological study based on hospitalization data obtained by accessing the Information Technology Department of the Unified Health System, considering the period 2011 to 2020. Results: data from 27,217 hospitalizations were analyzed. In all macro-regions there was an increase in hospitalizations between 2011 and 2020, especially in Alto Vale do Itajaí, with an increase equal to 96.8%. There was a predominance of hospitalizations of children aged 1 to 4 years (25.6%), male (56.1%) and white race/color (93.7%). Leukemia was the main cause of hospitalization (32.6% of all hospitalizations). Conclusion: the number of hospitalizations increased between 2011 and 2020, pointing to the need for public policies aimed at promoting child and youth health and strengthening the Health Care Networks to take care of this population.
