The profile of women with ectopic pregnancy treated at a public hospital the Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

Objective: to describe the profile of women with ectopic pregnancy (EG) treated at a public hospital the Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Method: this is a cross-sectional, descriptive study, with a retrospective quantitative approach. The study was carried out in a gynecology service of a large public hospital. The sample consisted on the analysis of 313 medical records of women diagnosed with EG, from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2019. Results: of the total of 313 medical records of women with EG analyzed, the average age was 28 years, 239 were white, 269 were single and 166 had elementary school. The average gestational age was 49 days, with 229 having previous pregnancies. 268 women did not have previous diseases, however 167 had some risk factor, the most frequent being: spontaneous abortion (22.0%), smoking (19.8%), old age (14.7%) and previous ectopic pregnancy (12.1%). Salpingectomy (62.6%), methotrexate (10.2%) and conservative treatment (15.0%) were the main treatments adopted, with the right tube (47.9%) and the left tube (41.2%) being the main locations of pregnancy. Conclusion: strategies for qualifying health care for women of reproductive age can be implemented as well as establishing clinical and obstetric protocols for the investigation and early diagnosis of EG.
