Abstract

In recent years Brazil has been undergoing an accelerated demographic, epidemiological and nutritional transition.  This modifies the population pattern and the diseases profile, alerting to a high incidence of chronic non communicable diseases (NCD). Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the risk factors for NCD in a neighborhood in the municipality of Mafra, SC. For data collection, an adapted version of VIGITEL questionnaire was used. The sample consisted of 294 individuals and data collection was obtained with the assistance of the Community Health Agents, who were trained for the task. The mean age obtained was 48.5 (SD = 15.7) years and the majority were women (n = 241, 82%). It was verified that 63.8% (n = 188) were classified as overweight and obese. Regarding diet, 44% (n=129) consumed milk and fruits every day, 22% (n=65) consumed soda, 60% (n = 176) meat, 46% (n=135) vegetables and 31% ( n=91) beans. Regarding physical activity, 42% (n = 123) reported practicing some. Among the most practiced are walking (51.2%) and strength work (8.5%). Regarding smoking, 24.7% (n = 73) did so daily, 43.1% (n = 127) reported having a diagnosis of hypertension and 11.9% (n = 35) of diabetes. The self-health perception was good in 44.1% (n = 130) of the cases. The data presented are of great importance in order to support the creation of health promotion interventions focused on the most evident risk factors for CNCD.
