Study of the period between 2000 and 2009 about higher education in the municipality of Canoinhas

This article is the result of an investigation that aimed to investigate the historical course of Higher Education implantation in the municipality of Canoinhas in the period between 1999 and 2009 and its contributions to regional development. Documentary, exploratory and descriptive research was used. The main source of the documentary research was the Jornal Correio do Norte. The study is justified by the celebration of the institution's fiftieth anniversary in the municipality referred to in 2020, in addition to the need to record the trajectory of the Canoinhas Campus. It is concluded that the main actions fell on extension and research programs, qualifying undergraduate education and consolidating the true spirit of a University that is structured on the tripod: teaching, research and extension as a promoter of regional development. The studied decade was characterized by a great expansion of Higher Education and mobilized various economic sectors in the municipality of Canoinhas.
