The purpose of this paper is to analyze Paraguay's growth patterns using the Shift-Share method. The study area comprises some departments of the Eastern Region of Paraguay. These departments are Alto Paraná, Caaguazú, Central, Itapúa, San Pedro and the capital of the country Asunción. The data were collected together with the General Directorate of Statistics Encuestas y Censo (DGEEC), through the Encuesta Permanente de Hogares (EPH). The number of persons employed by economic sector for the period 2004-2014 was analyzed. Data analysis was performed using the Shitf-share method. The results indicate a dynamism in the secondary and tertiary sector in the Central, Asunción and Alto Paraná departments. The departments of Caaguazú and Itapúa show dynamism to the secondary sector possibly due to the effects of the soy complex. The San Pedro department is predominantly linked to the primary sector.
