The patrimonialization of territories has been an alternative for the valorization of material and immaterial goods in order to promote regional and local development. This paper aims to propose the heritage of the territory as a development strategy for a set of municipalities in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil), which largely demonstrate high economic and social vulnerability, especially those located in the south of the state. The patrimonialization process discussed here uses an ancient path that has been used for centuries, being an important place for meeting cultures and also for Spanish and Portuguese in the colonial period to use it to expand their domains. Through a documentary and bibliographic survey, we sought to conduct a discussion about the process of patrimonialization of territories, bringing real national and international examples, to later approach the patrimonialization in the region of this royal path, treated as “Caminho para osErvais”. It is concluded that there are very real possibilities to patrimonialize the territory of the Path to the Herbs; However, the challenges are significant.
