This paper aims to analyze the efficiency of herb-mate production in the border region of Mato Grosso do Sul, through a multicase study, relevant to the local economy and regional development. Methodologically, the data envelopment analysis technique was applied for constant returns of scale, with input orientation; taking as explanatory variables for inputs: cultivation area; labor and the amount invested in production; the output variable was the effective output. An overall efficiency of 48.7% between herb-mate producers. It was found that the producer with lower performance should minimize the use of inputs by 82.1% in order to make it efficient. It is concluded that this multicriterial technique assists in the decision making process, being an important tool in the management of properties, aiming at the development of the activity and the region as a whole.
