Abstract

The panorama of the Urban Planning, Regional/Demography (PLURD) area includes the Postgraduate Program in Planning and Territorial Dynamics in the Semiarid (PLANDITES), composing part of the strictu sensu postgraduate programs of the State University of Rio Grande do Norte ( UERN), whose main objective is to contribute to the production of new knowledge about the semi-arid region, in the analysis of its territorial dynamics and in the training of human resources capable of acting in the planning and development of the territory. In this article, the program and the regional characteristics in which it is inserted are presented and contextualized and we reflect on the perspectives and challenges of the PLURD area today, as well as the main limits and challenges of the Area and PLANDITES, through a descriptive approach, with the support of a bibliographical and documental research. In this way, it is concluded that the regional impact of PLANDITES is of great relevance, it responds to the deficit of postgraduate opportunities in the area where it is inserted, it focuses on meeting local specificities, considering the different realities of the territory through technical training, but also humanist, inserts the graduates in the most diverse areas of planning, management and territory, and in addition, it constitutes a regional reference center that addresses the PLURD area and that is specifically aimed at the Brazilian semi-arid region.
