Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the change in competition for the Port of Santos, comparing it with other Brazilian ports between the years 2010 and 2019. For this purpose, an indicator of the share of exports for the main Brazilian ports was used in the period investigated for six product groups. The evolution of this indicator allows us to verify how the participation of the Port of Santos evolved and to show if there was a net gain or loss of participation in relation to the main competing ports for each product group. It was observed that there was a significant loss of cargo from the Port of Santos to other competing ports for at least four of the six product groups analyzed: soy, vehicles, iron and steel, and plastics. The Port of Santos maintained or increased its participation only for exports of machinery in general and sugar.
