Analysis of the production and municipal development of agropecuaria tocantinense between 2006 and 2017

Abstract

The rise of the cerrado in agricultural production put the state of Tocantins in focus. It is the youngest state in Brazil, it was created after the 1988 Constitution and has been going through a process of expansion of its productive structure. Between 2006 and 2017, Tocantins more than quadrupled its gross value in agricultural production (VBPA). Thus, the objective of this work was to analyze the location and specialization of the Tocantins agricultural sector in relation to the North region, as well as to verify the association between the sector's production value and the development of the municipalities of Tocantins in the years 2006 and 2017. To meet the objective were applied the locational and specialization indicators, and the techniques of ESDA (exploratory spatial data analysis). The results showed that there was a significant increase in the production of temporary crops, and a spatial deconcentration of the VBPA in the state. The ESDA pointed out that, even with the advance of the VBPA, many municipalities with high production value are surrounded by municipalities with low development, mainly in the health indicator, which presented several high-low outliers.
