Lauro de Freitas in the tourism context of the metropolitan region of Salvador

Abstract

The understanding of the interrelationships between tourism and space is the background of the analysis put here. Its territorial landmark is the Metropolitan Region of Salvador (RMS), focusing on the municipality of Lauro de Freitas/BA. The article seeks to analyze the behavior of Lauro de Freitas in the dynamics of RMS tourism, starting from the conceptual categories proposed by Boullón. For this, we used in addition to bibliographic research, semi-structured interviews with members of the municipal administration and tourism specialists, as well as the analysis of the content of the official websites of the means of lodging of Lauro de Freitas and the testimonies of its guests, with respect to these same establishments, available on TripAdvisor platforms and Booking.com. It was concluded that Lauro de Freitas presents a peculiar behavior, not described in the literature, here defined as "Tourist Center Dormitory", very dependent on the dynamics of the other municipalities of the RMS, notably Salvador and Camaçari.
