The present work seeks to broaden the debate about the mineral question in Brazil, using an interdisciplinary reading on the subject. After the recent accidents with dams in Minas Gerais and Pará, these structures and their relations with geographic space and temporal perspectives become a source of reflection. The scope of this work is to analyze the ruptures of tailings dams from the point of view of the Ecological Economy, dialonging with other areas of knowledge, in an interdisciplinary approach. This study uses an approach of a theoretical nature and a bibliographic, documentary and descriptive research as methodological procedure. As a main result, it was verified that the companies ignore the negative environmental and social impacts that their mineral exploration projects lead to the society, because they adopt short-term behavior, without long-term solutions, which reveals the need to rethinking the role of the state, in a new legal framework for mining and the participation of society.
