Urban agriculture in Brazil
a survey on scientific production in Scopus and Web of Science bases

The objective of this study is to carry out a bibliometric survey to map and analyze the publications related to urban agriculture in Brazil, aiming to identify the available approaches on the subject, the types of urban agriculture existing and finally identify the States with the highest concentration of studies on urban agriculture. The bibliometric research was extracted from the documents indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science platform, being selected the articles whose contents are directly related to the theme. The discussion of the results was developed according to the following steps: (a) Search for documents from the keywords "urban agriculture" and "Brazil"; (b) Delimitation for only articles publications, being found 27 documents; (c) Quantitative analysis of the chronological evolution of publications, countries, areas of study, institutions, type of language, type of document, qualis of journals and author with more publications; and, (d) Qualitative analysis from the synthesis of the articles. The result of this study was that urban agriculture practices in Brazil have approaches that focus on health, sustainability, public policies, landscaping, teamwork, vertical agriculture, rural to urban migration and indigenous agriculture in urban areas. It was also verified that the studies on urban agriculture in Brazil are concentrated in the state of Pará, followed by São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Recife and Amazonas. In addition, it has been found that urban and peri-urban agriculture are practiced in gardens, gardens, backyards, buildings and through the raising of animals.
